Makayla and Tim met up with me in a parking lot in downtown Sioux City so we could start our wintry engagement session on the roof of a parking garage. There were still little pockets of snow and the wind was blowing, but these two had nothing but smiles and laughter the whole time.
After a few portraits, we headed back down to the ground level and started walking around downtown, stopping by cool buildings or benches and mostly just enjoying some time together. Some of my favorite photos are when I ask them to go in for a big squeezy hug.
Our next stop was prime for an outfit change. We drove out to Adam’s Homestead and Nature Preserve and played around in the open prairie. The grey clouds were rolling in more heavily. We worried we might get hit with some rain. Just as the sky broke open and let out some sprinkles, we scrambled to a nearby porch for a few last photos (and a couple smooches) before crawling back into our cars to warm up.
Normally after engagement sessions I send a ton of sneak peeks as soon as possible because I love sharing my excitement with the couple. However, this time, I convinced Makayla and Tim to try something different. I sent them two sneak peek photos, and offered to do a photo reveal. They enthusiastically said “yes.”
After about 2 weeks, we got together to view a slideshow from their engagement session. Makayla’s parents may have shed a few tears during the reveal. It’s so fun to physically see the reactions from my couple and their family. I think photo reveals might need to be a regular occurrence. 🙂

I'm a Minnesota wedding photographer. I am best known for my candid photos that showcase the truest spirits of you and the people you love. As a documentary wedding photographer, I give you space for uninterrupted moments to experience your event as it happens. Always present, but not intrusive. I am always on the move, working my way into the middle of the action as often as I stand back and observe. This approach results in a comprehensive gallery of images that honestly and wholeheartedly tell the story of your wedding day-- the story of how you love, who was there, and why it matters.
